thewall writes "Hi, everyone. I wanted to introduce you to an extraordinary man ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkQiuqpE2sw see his video story here). His name is Larry Frederick. He is a former Oakland police officer and blood recipient of 110 units after he was struck by a drunk driver while talking with a stopped motorist. He was told he wouldn't make it and if by some small chance he did that he would probably never walk again. Well, he lived and not only did he walk, he rode...and has never stopped riding. He will be in Amarillo on our last day of our Boots vs. Badges blood drive competition, Tuesday, August 31, at Coffee Memorial from noon-3:00pm. We will have a "Ride for Life" to Bushland from 9:30am-noon with a stop at the Cadillac Ranch for photos to commemorate his visit to Amarillo. A schedule of events is attached. Please pass this flyer on to everyone you know so that we can have a good number of riders (I know it's tough because it's a weekday) and that we can be a small part of helping him raise 75,000 units of blood nationwide as well as $110,000 ($1,000 for each unit of blood he received) for the Foundation of America's Blood Centers (FABC). FABC is a non-profit foundation that offers grants and special funding to blood centers across the U.S. Coffee Memorial is a recent recipient of FABC funding to create a high school video so that kids know what to expect from blood donation and therefore, have fewer reactions. If you would like to ride, meet at Coffee Memorial with your bike on Tuesday, August 31, at 9am. If you would like to donate blood, please stop by on August 31 between 10:30am-7:00pm and ask to sign the Tree of Life for Larry Frederick. If you would like to make a donation, please make it payable to the Foundation for America's Blood Centers with "Larry Frederick" on the memo line and mail it to my attention at the below address before August 31 so that I can present it to Larry when he is here. The Amarillo Police Officer's Association and Keeter's Sausage will be cooking complimentary lunch for everyone who comes out between 11am-2pm. Thanks so much for your consideration. I hope that you all have a chance to stop by and meet Larry. I would love to give him a big Texas welcome! :) Please share this e-mail with everyone you know, post it to your facebook pages and help spread the word. I would love to give him a big Texas welcome! :) Also, if you would like to follow his journey or learn more about him, please visit his website www.lifeacrossamerica.com. Note that his daughter, Adella, flew home to prepare for a mission trip after the first leg of the ride (3800 miles) so Larry will be traveling alone on his journey back.
